I am delighted to announce that Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer will be leading an unforgettable retreat at the High Camp Hut. Imagine stepping away from your daily life and immersing yourself in nature and poetry in one of the most beautiful, secluded settings in the San Juan Mountains. With only 12 participants, this retreat offers time and space to reflect, create and connect to nature and a supportive community of kindred spirits.
Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer, a celebrated poet, teacher, and facilitator is known for her warmth, insight and ability to guide others toward honest, and powerful writing. Her poetry has been featured on A Prairie Home Companion, PBS News Hour, O Magazine, American Life in Poetry, and Carnegie Hall’s stage. In 2024, she became Evermore’s first poet laureate helping others navigate life’s beauty and grief through poetry. Rosemerry is a wonderful friend and I have dreamed of hosting her at High Camp. She is compaasionate, patient and loves to share her talents with anyone and everyone… Join us for this unique retreat and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, the power of words and the joy of creative connections.
For the first time in a long time I was moved to be creative and to use writing as a tool for healing. I could feel my stagnation begin to melt away in the Light that was presented today. I’ve been freeing up some space lately and asking that it be filled with people and things that inspire me to be the best version of myself and that is exactly what happened today.
—Jackie, workshop participant
The world is a better place because of Trommer’s poems.

There is some kind of magic in your smile, your encouraging energy, and amazing talent to open up people’s creative minds. You have facilitated a bit of a renaissance in our building. I have felt warm, enthusiastic vibes from even some of our more reserved teachers today. Of course, the students have it now and are exuding the joy of words big time.

High Camp Hut sits on 320 acres where the sub division rights have been given to The Nature Conservancy, and is surrounded by the Grizzly Peak Reserch Natural Area in the San Juan Forest. Here, the landscape becomes part of your writing: the soft whispers of spruce and fir forests, wide-open alpine meadows, and the silent granduer of towering peaks. Whether you’re seeking quiet moments to write alone or the joy of sharing your words with others, this retreat will encourage exploration and inspiration at very turn. We will also spend time hiking during the day to the specail places above High Camp. Evenings can be spent sitting around the campfire or soaking in the woodfired hot tub.
We pride ourselves with sharing a comfortalbe and clean log cabin with 6 bedrooms, ample space to sit on couches and share conversations and a big spruce table where delicious fresh meals are shared. When night finally arrives you will crawl into your flannel sheets and dream of the inspiration you experienced.

WHO IS CINDY FARNY?
Cindy Farny is the owner of High Camp and The Executive Director of Friends of High Camp… I am passionate about this magical place and it is my privilege to share this wildly beautiful location with you and as many people as possible. The retreats that are held here are because I believe in bringing people who don’t know each other to meet and share our common humanity and to form a community with nature as our focus. I have spent way too many hours inside in front of a computer, or making sourdough bread for over 16 different restaurants in Telluride, or helping my parents run Skyline Guest Ranch. High Camp has saved me, spending time in nature has saved me. I know first hand how important it is to slow down, listen, and share something that means a lot to me. It is my dream to keep this place open to these kinds of retreats long after I have moved on from this earth.
