High up in the mountains of Colorado, High Camp Hut is a two-story backcountry hut nestled into 320 acres of privately held land sitting in 2 million acres of San Juan National Forest. The hut sits at 11,000 feet above sea level in the San Juan National Forest, with views of Lizardhead, the Wilsons, and Sheep Mountain. Drive 15 miles from Telluride, CO, and access to the Hut is a short 2.5-mile hike, ski, jog, or bike from Hwy 145.


Your visit to High Camp Hut should be looked at as an adventure. The views are incredibly awe-inspiring, and it is truly a magical place. Stay a night, weekend, or whole week and never run out of exploring.

Activities

Choose your own adventure year-round. With nearby mountains for climbing, hiking, hunting, skiing, snowboarding, sledding, or simply enjoying a hot tub and sauna. It’s a great place to host an event, have a hut trip with good friends, or just get away with the family.

 

Access

High Camp Hut can be accessed year-round via hiking, biking, snowshoeing, or ski/board touring. Follow our access road or navigate an unofficial trail to arrive at the hut. It’s a mellow 2.5-mile trek without any avalanche danger as long as you follow the road. Easier to access than most other huts, it’s ideal for families and those newer to the backcountry.
